Brycen Hohman throws gem for Forbes Road

Pitching isn't exactly a staple of Forbes Road's baseball team.

"We're not going to blow anybody away with this pitching staff," Cardinal coach Randy Gelvin said.

That might be the case most games, but it wasn't the case Tuesday night. Brycen Hohman and Weylin Mitchell combined for a one-hitter in a 6-3 victory over Everett.

"Hohman pitched a real nice game," Gelvin said. "He gave up the one hit, and that was it. It was early in the game, too. He had a real nice outing."

Despite walking five, Hohman racked up six strikeouts - and three of his walks didn't come until the seventh inning.

In addition to his pitching prowess, Hohman also went 3-for-4 at the place.

Other top hitters for Forbes Road in the victory were Mitchell and Landon Mixell, who had key hits in the fourth inning when the Cardinals scored five of their runs. They each drove in a pair of runs.

The Cardinals are now on a three-game win streak.

"We haven't played a whole lot of strong teams yet, but we're in the middle of the pack," Gelvin said. "We'll have to use finesse with our pitchers, but we're not having a whole lot of errors. We're getting a few hits and scoring a few runs, so we'll have to see what happens."
