Trio of boys hoops players off to fine start

It's not exactly a surprise that there have been several early basketball standouts - almost every team in the area has at least one player who could be called a superstar.

But just how well a trio of Franklin-Fulton players started the season was rather eye-popping.

Shalom Christian's Jonah Stains got it all started last week with a 35-point performance against Faith, and he followed it with 21 points against Cumberland Valley Christian. He is averaging a staggering 28 points so far.

On Tuesday, two District 5 players made heads turn. Dylan Gordon led Southern Fulton to victory with a career-high 32 points against Everett and Fannett-Metal's Mikell McGee followed right behind with 31 versus Belleville Mennonite. McGee is now just 178 points away from 1,000 for his career, and Gordon is 292 shy of his milestone. Both are just juniors.

In girls hoops, James Buchanan has also had a player score 30-plus points. Charity Miller didn't perform so well in the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament Championship against Greencastle-Antrim, but she came back with a vengeance. In a narrow victory over Big Spring, Miller was the difference-maker with 33 points to account for more than half of her team's offense.

That's four players that have scored more than 30 points in a game this season, and we're only in Week 2.
