The Week Ahead: 1/27-2/1 Division titles on the line, leagues top scorers and a once-a-generation wrestler


MONDAY, JANUARY 27

BOYS BASKETBALL

York Catholic at Hanover, 7:30 p.m. - 

Three teams are still fighting for the YAIAA Division IV title and two of them meet Monday night. York Catholic, (6-8 overall, 6-4 in division) travel to Hanover to take on the Nighthawks. After starting the season at 3-8, the Irish are on a three-game winning streak and have kept themselves in contention for the division as well as a spot in the District 3 playoffs. They are led by Matt McKim and his 15 points per game.

Hanover responded to a 56-55 loss last Friday at the hands of York Suburban by defeating Biglerville this week 75-37. The Nighthawks are led by Nick Trish (17.9 ppg) and Dylan Krieger (14.6 ppg). They currently sit atop the division (13-4 overall, 8-3 in division and hold the second spot in the Class AA District 3 rankings.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 28

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hanover at Biglerville, 7:30 p.m. - Hanover’s Soukaina Tracy leads the Hawkettes into Biglerville as the two teams matchup for the third time this season. The series is tied 1-1. The two teams met January 23rd and Hanover pulled out a one-point victory in which Tracy finished with a game-high 30 points. The Canners are led by Katie Camara (18.0 ppg) and Rebecca Isaac (15.2 ppg). They are currently on a two-game losing streak. Biglerville is currently fifth in the latest Class AA District 3 poll and Hanover is sixth.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 30

WRESTLING

Kennard-Dale at Central York, 7:30 p.m. - 

This is one of your last opportunities to see one of the greatest high school wrestlers of the YAIAA. Senior Chance Marsteller has a chance to do what only three other high school wrestlers in Pennsylvania have ever done and that is to finish all four years undefeated. It may not be an event in the Hanover-area, but Marsteller is a once-a-generation type wrestler.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 31

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hanover at Delone Catholic, 7:30 p.m. - Two cross-town rivals square off again as Hanover travels to take on the Squires. In their first meeting, Hanover pulled off a 61-50 win. Delone sits one win behind Hanover in the YAIAA Division IV battle. Hanover has Nick Trish (17.9 ppg) and Dylan Krieger (14.6 ppg), while Delone Catholic boasts the third-highest scorer in the league in Devon Moore who is averaging 19.2 ppg. The two teams sit two and three in the district.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Delone Catholic at Hanover, 7:30 p.m.-

This is a match-up of two of the top five scorers in the YAIAA. Delone is led by junior Maddie Comly and her 18.7 points per game while Hanover is led by sophomore Soukaina Tracy and her 20.7 points per game. The last time these two teams met, Delone won 69-48. Hanover has won five of its last six games while Delone is on a nine-game winning streak.

Spring Grove at Gettysburg, 7:30 p.m. - Two of the top scorers in the Hanover-area square off when the Rockets travel to Gettysburg. Morgan Arden leads Spring Grove and the YAIAA with 22.9 points per game. Gettysburg is led by Cami Boehner and her 22.2 points per game. This is a must win game for the Warriors as they cling to the 17th spot in the Class AAA District 3 standings and the top 18 make it.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1

WRESTLING

Delone Catholic, East Pennsboro, Hanover, Moshannon Valley, New Oxford, Susquenita and Warwick at Gettysburg Warrior Tournament, TBA - If you are a fan of Hanover-area wrestling and want to catch one more tournament before teams start team districts, Gettysburg High will be the place to be. Four Hanover-area teams will be represented in what should be a fun day of wrestling.
