Volleyball teams face District 3 challenges
The District 3 boys' volleyball tournaments resume Wednesday night, with several compelling matchups.
In the 3A tournament, the good news for the YAIAA is two teams have already qualified for the state tournament, and one York-area team is guaranteed a spot in the championship match.
Dallastown and league champion Central York have already navigated a loaded bracket and will be playing in the state tournament. The two York County teams meet in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Red Lion.
Central York defeated Dallastown, 3-1, in the regular season.
The winner will play in the district title game against the winner of a Central Dauphin vs. Penn Manor semifinal.
District 3 will hold the championship game of the 3A tournament Friday, unless Central York is one of the finalists. If Central York reaches the district final, the District 3 championship match will be held Thursday at a time and site to be determined so Central players can attend Central's high school graduation on Friday.
In 2A, Northeastern and York Suburban appear in separate ends of the bracket. Both will need to win a semifinal matchup, or survive a third-place consolation game, to secure a spot in the state tournament.
Northeastern plays Cocalico at 6 p.m. at Dallastown High School in the first game of the 2A semifinal doubleheader. The Bobcats and Eagles each won quarterfinal matches with sweeps.
York Suburban faces off against No. 1-seeded Manheim Central in the semifinal scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Dallastown. Suburban advanced to a semifinal with a five-game victory against Lancaster Mennonite.
The 2A championship game is scheduled for Friday at a time and site to be determined.
