Hempfield taking "next man up" approach in 2016

 Team: Hempfield

Classification: 6A

Head Coach: Ron Zeiber (31-26)

The Black Knights again reached new heights a year ago and will look to ascend even higher in 2016 with a group of athletes who clearly know what it takes to win.

The production and leadership of graduated three-year starters Sam Kramer and Will Blair will be dispersed among multiple returnees, with Mark Himmelsbach and David Martin competing for quarterback reps and Brendan Flores taking over at halfback. Martin, who caught 21 passes a year ago and logged 157 yards on the ground, will be the top returning playmaker regardless of where he lines up.

Expect Hempfield to take a ‘next man up’ approach on defense — the linebacking core has been a mainstay under Zeiber’s watch — as the Knights continue to challenge in and beyond Section One.
