Mercersburg claims 3 place-winners in PAISAA meet


MERCERSBURG >> Mercersburg Academy hosted the annual Pa. Independent School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament on Saturday, and the Blue Storm came up with three place-winners.

At 285 pounds, Cody Frost-Eisenberg was seeded No. 4 and ended up placing third. After winning a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals, Frost-Eisenberg was pinned by top seed Mike Rogers of Wyoming Seminary. In the consolation semifinals, Frost-Eisenberg scored a pin, then edged Haverford School's Chauncey Simmers, 3-2, for third place.

Alex Olijade was seeded fifth at 160, and that's where he ended up, going 4-2 with two pins. In the bout for fifth, Olijade nipped Max Starr of Westtown, 9-8.

Nick Furigay placed seventh at 145 pounds with a 3-2 record. He scored a 9-4 decision over Andrew Wilson of Germantown Friends in the match for seventh.

Of the nine other Blue Storm entries, eight went 0-2 and Jose Cervera (182) was 1-2.

Frost-Eisenberg (29-6) and Olijade (18-8) have qualified for the Prep National Tournament at Lehigh University this coming weekend.

Wyoming Seminary completely dominated the tournament, crowning nine champions and added four runners-up, to win its ninth straight state title. Malvern Prep placed second.
