DIST. 5-A BOYS BASKETBALL: Top seed Southern Fulton rolls to 41-point win over Meyersdale

WARFORDSBURG >> There was no surprise and very little suspense in Warfordsburg on Monday night.

In a twice-postponed first-round game of the District 5 Class A boys basketball playoffs, the No. 1-seeded Southern Fulton Indians broke out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter against Meyersdale and ended up battering the Red Raiders 74-33.

With the victory, SF (23-1) will now face Fulton County rival McConnellsburg (17-6) for the third time this season, this time in the district semifinals. The game is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bedford High School.

"We were a little sluggish at the start, but then we got into our groove," Southern Fulton coach Kent Hendershot said. "Hey, we were just happy to finally be able to play."

The Indians put four players in double figures – Dylan Gordon led with 21 points, Connor Litton had 17 and Trent Rider and Zach Clark each contributed 12.

"Clark didn't shoot well, but he scored," Hendershot said. "They were trying some junk defenses on the other guys and they challenged him to shoot. He's in a little bit of a slump, but he kept shooting and he needs to do that. We need contributions from everybody at this time of the year."

Litton grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Indians, and added five steals. Gordon put up seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

For Meyersdale (8-15), Jake Knotts scored 12 points.
