Biglerville's run comes to close in District 3 girls' basketball quarterfinals

CAMP HILL >> The Biglerville Canners 2014-15 season has come to the end of a long-winding road.

With a 60-39 loss to Camp Hill, the book closed on the careers of 1,000-point scorer Rebecca Isaac and her sharp-shooting running mate Maddie Wenk.

"They've been dedicated and devoted the whole season, they gave exemplary effort, integrity, and conduct," Biglerville head coach Rob Moore said. "They were four-year lettermen. It was great to coach them, and I couldn't ask for better athletes to represent our school."

After battling injuries all season, Biglerville finally ran out of steam, dropping its last five contests.

Still, the Canners battled for 13 wins, posting their third consecutive double-digit win season.

"For Biglerville basketball, if you reach 10 wins, everybody seems to believe that you had a good year," Moore said. "We never limit expectations to that. We always push on and see what we can do. Our initial goal was 17 wins this year, but you never know what can happen with injuries."

From the outset, it was clear that Friday's game would be played at an up-tempo pace.

Camp Hill held the ball for 50 seconds on its first possession before Leah Springer cashed in a putback layup.

Suddenly, the ball began flowing into the basket, with both teams trading buckets.

Kelsey Collingsworth came up with the first of her four steals 20 seconds later and dished the ball to Sydney Newman, who found Diamond Bragg for an easy layup.

A half-minute later, Wenk hit nothing by net on a short baseline jumper to put Biglerville on the board.

Camp Hill raced to the other end and Springer found the range on a corner 3-pointer to make it 7-2.

After Collingsworth blocked a shot into Newman's hands, Newman found Addie Guyer for a breakaway layup.

Isaac answered with a 3 that bounced high in the air off the rim before falling through at the 5 minute mark.

Ten seconds later, Guyer stroked a pull-up 3.

Then things cooled down, as the team's combined for just one point on the next 13 possessions.

Bragg began to take over for Camp Hill after a steal and breakaway layup broke the futility with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.

The freshman scored the next eight points for Camp Hill.

"She was spectacular and very explosive," Camp Hill head coach Mark Clarke said. "She can make things happen for her and her teammates."

The stretch was interrupted by just one Biglerville answer, a fall-away left-handed up-and-under circus shot made by Wenk early in the second.

Bragg immediately attacked the basket from the wing on the next possession and hit a right-handed runner to make it 18-8.

She went coast to coast a few possessions later and executed a fake in the air before finishing left handed in front of a defender.

"Being a freshman with all these seniors on the team, it's hard to come out and take over," Bragg said. "Once I saw one of the seniors get in foul trouble, I just took it into my hands."

Collingsworth made it 22-8 just over a minute later with a smooth putback layup.

Collingsworth, a senior, was one of two Camp Hill players with a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Leah Springer racked up 15 points and 13 boards to go along with five blocks.

Bragg added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Biglerville cut the lead to 11 on Isaac's self-created 3 at 3:11, but Bragg answered with a floater and the Canners were never again closer than 12.
