GIRLS BASKETBALL: Mercersburg falls to Episcopal in PAISSA quarterfinals

NEWTOWN SQUARE >> There's no doubt about it: Mercersburg Academy is going to want this one back.

The Blue Storm's girls basketball team led for all but three minutes of Wednesday afternoon's PAISSA quarterfinal game against Episcopal Academy. But the Churchwomen (18-6) took the lead late and held on for a 52-44 victory.

"After they took the lead with about three minutes left, we just couldn't get the ball to go in the basket," Mercersburg assistant coach David Bell said. "We had to foul to try to get it, and they made their free throws. It's disappointing because we should've won."

The Blue Storm (16-6) finished with their second-lowest point total of the season and shot just 26 percent from the floor.

"It was one of those days where we didn't get into a great rhythm offensively, and they played really tough defensively," Bell said. "The last part of the fourth quarter, our shots didn't fall, we didn't get the rebounds, we weren't getting the loose balls. Nothing went our way. It was a great season, but a disappointing way to end it."

Molly Taylor led Mercersburg with 15 points, and Teal Tasker followed with 11.
