GIRLS BASKETBALL: CV Christian ousted by strong Grace Academy, 54-15

HAGERSTOWN, MD. >> From the opening tip-off Tuesday, Cumberland Valley Christian's girls basketball team had trouble getting the ball in the basket.

The Blazers finished 0 of 20 from beyond the arc, scored just five field goals and suffered a 54-15 loss at the hands of Grace Academy in the opening round of the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference tournament.

"We just came out flat, unfortunately, and could not contain their offense," CVC coach Mike Sanders said. "They played a 2-3 and pressed us quite a bit. We had 23 turnovers, so that was another big issue."

The Blazers (3-16) did not score more than five points in any quarter, and the high came in the first frame, when Grace managed 21 points of its own. Lindsey Vedngol (21 points) and Taylor Morgan (14) both finished in double figures for the Knights, while no one from CVC scored more than five.

"We worked on playing against the press, but getting it from practice to the game is always the biggest challenge for a coach," Sanders said. "They gave us trouble right from the onset, and we just couldn't keep up with them."

Maddie Keck led the Blazers with five points and 11 rebounds, while Jessica Becker scored four points.
