Joey Pena went 2-for-4 with a homer, triple and three RBI to power the Perkiomen School baseball team to an 8-3 victory over visiting Friends Central in a Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal at Baker Field.

The third seed Panthers (19-4) advanced to Saturday's semifinal against second seed Penn Charter at Upper Perkiomen High School at 4 p.m. The championship is set for Upper Perkiomen at 7 p.m.

Naquan Holden got the Panthers rolling, slamming a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the second inning. Perkiomen then loaded the bases and Pena cleared them by ripping a three-run triple to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

Friends Central scored one run in the top of the third, but Perkiomen piled on four more runs in the bottom of the fifth with Angel Lopez (1-for-3) providing the highlight in that inning with a two-run homer.

Friends Central scored two more runs in the top of the seventh.

On the mound, Levi Stoudt did his job for the Panthers, giving up seven hits, striking out eight, walking just one, and going the distance for the win.

JUNIOR LEGION

Norchester Big Dawgz 10, Shillington Dodgers 0: Corey Hennessey pitched a no-hitter, struck out eight and walked three, as the Big Dawgz blanked the Dodgers in Twin-County action.

Leading the Big Dawgz offense, Austyn Levengood went 3-for-3. Brian Sicket (1-for-3) and Michael Wisely (1-for-3) each smacked a triple and drove in two runs, while Hennessey also went 1-for-3 for the Big Dawgz (3-2).

16U BASEBALL

Mid-Atlantic Tide 7, Pottsgrove 1: The Mid-Atlantic Tide routed crosstown rival Pottsgrove in City County League action, led by Danny Monzo who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Mitchell Peers was 1-for-3, also smacked a double and two RBI.

Patrick Cleary pitched three scoreless innings for the Tide (2-0). For Pottsgrove, Charlie Basas was 2-for-3, with a double.
