PHOENIXVILLE - Stephen Muscovitch went the distance, and Owen J. Roberts scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat Phoenixville, 7-5, in Pioneer Athletic Conference baseball action on April 25.
Muscovitch, a 6-foot-4 right-hander who is headed to Millersville University, allowed eight hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts and one walk on 106 pitches for the Wildcats (6-7, 7-7).
"He had a couple things that didn't go his way behind him, and he made one mistake himself,' said Owen J. Roberts coach Greg Gilbert. "But he stuck with it in there. He threw a lot of strikes and worked ahead int he count. It was a nice job by him.'
Owen J. Roberts scoreed one run in the first inning, two in the third, two in the sixth and two in the eighth in sweeping the season series against the Phantoms (5-7, 7-7).
Phoenixville countered with one run in the second, two int he third, one in the fourth and one in the bottom of the sixth that tied the contest at 5-5.
The Wildcats' offense consisted of 11 hits, including a double by Jake LeClerc. Designated hitter Alex Condello finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Colin McCourt (two sacrifice bunts) and Riley McGinley each had a pair of hits. David Clay knocked in two runs, and leadoff hitter Blake McCourt scored three runs with one hit, two walks and reached on an error.
Blake McCourt reached via an error to start the decisive eighth inning. Colin McCourt sacrificed him over to second base. Noah Beebe singled to left-center field to plate Blake McCourt with the go-ahead run, andhe took second on the throw to the infield. With two down, Alex Condello stroked a single to center field to score Beebe sith an insurance run.
Phoenixville went down in order in the last of the eighth on as stirkeout and two fly balls to center field.
James Jackson, Owen Goryl and Logan Landis (double) each had two hits for Phoenixville, while Michael Anthony doubled home a run in the second inning. jackson also scored a run and single home a run in the third.
Landis started on the mound for the Phantoms and hurled the first 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and one earned run with four walks and one strikeouts, before shifting to left field. Brett Thomas relieved for the final 6.2 innings. He surrendered four eanred runs with one strikeout and no walks.
