Phoenixville's boys basketbal team was unable to overcome an early deficit as it fell to Bethlehem Liberty 49-45 in non-league play Wednesday night.
Christian Kelly scored 15 points to head a trio of double-figure performers for Phoenixville, which trailed by a 13-5 count after one quarter but went into the fourth down only 38-36. Marquise McDuffie added 13 and Eric Wallace 11 — both players getting nine from 3-point range.
Hill School 47, Springside Chestnut Hill 44: In a warmup for the Pa. Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) tournament, the Blues edged Springside Chestnut Hill in non-league action.
Jonica Brown scored a game-high 20 points for the Hill (8-12), which reversed a 15-9 first-quarter deficit into a 21-19 halftime lead. The locals will open PAISAA play Friday with a 6 p.m. game at Germantown Academy.
Pope John Paul II 40, Bishop McDevitt 33: The Golden Panthers closed out their regular season on an up note, marking Senior Night with a victory over Bishop McDevitt. Sean McQuaid scored a one-minute pin of Anthony Gordon in the 138-pound finale to sew up the win for PJP (5-12), which held a tenuous one-point (34-33) lead at that juncture. The Panthers also cashed in on falls from Brendan Rau (220) and Nick Yerger (113), as well as a major decision by Vinnie Togno (145) and regular verdicts from Will Heid (152) and Luke Genetti (285).
