Perkiomen Valley senior quarterback/safety Rasaan Stewart has been named to the Pennsylvania squad that will compete in the Big 33 Football Classic Saturday, June 14, at Hersheypark Stadium.
The game between the Pennsylvania and Maryland senior all-stars will be shown live on the NFL Network, beginning at 7 p.m.
Stewart got the news during his final-period study hall at school Tuesday, shortly after the team was released online.
"I was definitely excited,' he said. "I'm just happy it came to pass. I was hoping it would happen. It's definitely a big reward, and I thank my coach (Scott Reed) for nominating me. It's something I'm definitely looking forward to.'
The 6-foot-1, 182-pound Stewart, who last month committed to Villanova University, put together a standout fall campaign in helping the Vikings go 10-3 and reach the District 1-AAAA semifinals.
A two-time All-Area Player of the Year who was named Class AAAA first team all-state by the Pennsylvania Football News, Stewart accumulated an area-best 2,068 passing yards and 26 touchdowns to go along with 1,204 rushing yards and 17 rushing TDs.
He finished his PV career with 4,438 passing yards, 2,954 rushing yards and 96 total touchdowns.
Stewart, who was selected as an athlete, is the first area player to be named to the Pennsylvania Big 33 team since Spring-Ford wideout Andrew Scanlan in 2012 and the first Vikings player to attain the honor since running back Grant Wiley in 1999.
"The Big 33 is such an honor,' PV coach Scott Reed said. "To be one of those 33 players is pretty incredible, and a credit to him. I know our coaching staff and entire school community is excited for him.'
