BOYERTOWN — For the Boyertown Bears, their last game of the season didn't have much meaning on paper.

With a 6-4 record coming in, win or lose, the Bears would be going home. But in the players' minds, the game meant everything they had worked for in their time at Boyertown.

Hosting Northampton at BASH Memorial Stadium, the Bears played with intensity, defeating the Konkrete Kids 50-28.

For Boyertown head coach Mark Scisly, this season has been a huge improvement from 2012, when the Bears were 3-8.

"It's been a great turn-around from last season,' he said. "Our kids played hard, worked hard and earned a great season.'

Throughout the game, Scisly's team played just as hard as he expected all season. Griffin Pasik threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

"He had another great performance tonight,' said Scisly. "It was a good end to his senior season.'

Mike Murphy and Boyertown struck first on the opening drive of the game as he rushed for a 16-yard touchdown to give the Bears an early 7-0 lead. Shorly after, Blake Boehm scored a 22-yard touchdown and also caught the two-point conversion to give the Konkrete Kids their first lead of the game.

With three minutes left in the first quarter, Cody Richmond ran for a two-yard touchdown as teammate Alex Baldassarre scored the two-point conversion. By the end of the the first quarter, the two teams were tied, 15-15.

In the second, Boyertown received a spark when Will School blocked a 31-yard field goal. Following the block, Eric Heller rushed for a 34-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 22-15 lead going into halftime.

"We made some great adjustments at halftime,' said Scisly. "Aside from one drive, we played good defense the entire second half.'

For Northampton head coach Jeff Brosky, the Konkrete Kids (0-11) played well, but ran out of gas as the game went on.

"It's been a struggle for us all season to come out strong in the third quarter,' said Brosky. "We stuck with our game plan, but our strength and endurance gave out on us.'

In the second half, Pasik threw two touchdowns on the first two drives to open things up for the Bears offense,

For Pasik, this season would have been much different without the help of his teammates, especially his offensive line. Knowing this was the last game of his high school career, Pasik wanted to go out on top.

"As seniors, we came in and realized that we'd never play on this field again,' he said. "It motivated us and we got things done out on the field. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome.'

Richmond, also a senior, capped his career with another huge night for the Bears. With 26 carries, the league leader in yards added 132 more to go with two touchdowns.

Senior Tyler Zilen made six catches for 102 yards and a score, but it was his defense that made the biggest impact for the Bears. Zilen tackled Northampton quarterback Nick Cook twice and was in the backfield often.

"Tyler played a nice game on both sides of the ball,' said Scisly. "Our defense stepped up big in the second half. We made some good adjustments.'
