Avery Jones
The season doesn't end for Avery Jones.

One sport ends and another begins for the York Suburban junior, who just went from the links to the rink. A year ago this time of year, he was playing basketball. Now, he's playing hockey.

Jones, the York Daily Record/Sunday News Boys' Golfer of the Year in Division II, discussed his playing habits and even a little inspiration to his favorite sport of golf. Here's what he had to say:
Question: If you weren't playing golf in the fall sports season, what would you be doing?
Answer: Actually right now I'm playing hockey. It's really fun. I love it and in the spring I'll be playing lacrosse.
Q: You get around to as much as you can, huh?
A: Yep, definitely. Last year, I played volleyball and basketball. So this year I'm switching it up.
Q: Why switch it up and play so many different sports?
A: I just love sports. I've been doing it since I was a little kid and a lot of friends are on the basketball team. I tried out and made it. A lot of friends were on the volleyball team. I tried out and made it. This year I tried hockey, and I like it a lot.
Q: When did you get into golf and how?
A: I started when I was 12 years old. I enrolled in my first tournament when I was 12 and since then I went from there. It's by far my favorite sport.
Q: What's on your iPod, MP3 or CD player?
A: Probably Lil Wayne's No

Ceilings or a little bit of Drake. I like a lot really. Whatever keeps me upbeat.
Q: What's the strangest thing you've seen or had happen on the course?
A: Oooh, it's probably last year's district qualifier. We had 35 mph winds and my ball was going all over. It was wild. People were falling all over.
Q: Was it safe? Were you guys able to finish?
A: We completed the whole round, but it was something else.
Q: Is silence important to you on the course?
A: I'd have to say it's supposed to bother you, but it really doesn't bother me, really. I'm sure if it was in the middle of my backswing it would bother me.
Q: So it's more of a sudden noise, right?
A: Yeah. The wind is definitely the biggest distraction. I'm used to playing indoor sports, so the noise doesn't really bother me.
Q: What's your favorite movie?
A: Probably Happy Gilmore.
Q: A golf movie, huh?
A: Yeah, it's just classic.
Q: Have you ever tried that swing that resembles a slapshot?
A: Yeah, me and my friend friends always tried it out.
Q: How is it?
A: To me, it's all right, but to my friends it's hilarious. I can make contact with it, but I'm not sure where it's going.
Q: If you could take a vacation anywhere, where would it be?
A: Probably Jamaica just because I've never been there before and heard about it. Great golf and beaches.
Q: Finally, what's the best thing about your sport?
A: Probably the drive to win. There's so many good players out there. They're all my friends and no matter who wins, it's still fun.
