Font ResizeDistrict 11 champion Moravian Academy took two of three singles matches and went on to defeat York Catholic, 3-2, in their PIAA Class AA first-round tennis match at West End Racquet Club in Allentown.
York Catholic's Maddie Kepner took the first set from Tasha Deb at No. 2 singles, but Deb controlled the last two sets and took a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 decision. Mia Chyung gave Moravian its second singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Sarah Koury in the No. 3 match.
Katie Burke and Lena Deb sealed the Lions' victory with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Kathryn Thomas and Katarina DeFelice at No. 1 doubles.
Anna Spoden gave York Catholic its lone singles point with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win vs. Kara Chyung in the No. 1 match. Emily and Maggie Javitt defeated Moravian's Priya Atiyeh and Arden Ashford, 6-2, 7-6.
York Catholic ends its season with a 13-2 record.
