HUMMELSTOWN -- A tough 3-2 loss in the semifinals to Hershey for the Chambersburg girls team at the Mid Penn Class AAA tennis tournament had a silver lining.
The Trojans' No. 1 doubles team of Abby Selman and Haleigh Maloskey defeated Hershey's duo of Corinne Lippe and Julia Hennrikus, 7-5, 6-2.
"Our No. 1 doubles team finally beat them and they played an awesome match," Chambersburg coach Mike Kolumban said. "They were definitely on a mission to at least get one win from them and they played what was probably the best doubles match of the whole season. They crossed well, they hit some really hard shots today and they had the Hershey girls on their heels the whole time."
Chambersburg's only other win came at No. 3 singles, where Mandy Bell defeated Adriana von Rago, 6-3, 6-0. Hershey's von Rago put up a fight early in the first set, but Bell quickly found a groove.
"Mandy played her usual game of tennis," Kolumban said. "Today's match was a lot easier than yesterday's. I don't know whether the pressure got to von Rago or what, but that was a quick win."
At No. 1 singles, Alex Oggero defeated Chambersburg's Abby Jacobs 6-2, 6-3. Jacobs had 2-1 lead in the second set, but her fortunes began to crumble from there. Libby Nolan added another Hershey point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Cooper McGarvey.
"In any case, it was a good showing for us and much better than we did in our last match against them (a 4-1 loss on Sept. 27)," Kolumban said.
Chambersburg finished 8-5. Jacobs will take the court Saturday in the District 3 Singles Tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.
