CARLISLE - A very successful day for the Chambersburg Lady Trojans landed them fourth place overall at the Carlisle Cross Country Invivational on Saturday morning.

"Our goal was to finish in the top five, and we were able to do that pretty comfortably," Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said. "I thought it was one of the best efforts of the season, and I was pleased with the results."

Courtney Group was the top finisher for Chambersburg, placing 11th overall in 19:29. She missed the top 10 by just one second. Alex Orr also had an impressive race, clocking in at 20:11 for 29th overall.

But it was Chambersburg's Nos. 3 through 5 runners that really sealed the fourth-place team spot. Ally Neidigh, Megan Reel and Carolyn Dann placed 45th, 49th and 51st overall and were separated by just 12 seconds. Monheim said one of his goals was to have his top five under 21 minutes, and they were able to accomplish that with Dann dropping to 20:54.

"There wasn't a whole lot of time between them, and at an invitational like that, that's real important," Monheim said. "No one had a bad day today."

The Greencastle-Antrim girls did not have enough runners to take a team spot. The Blue Devils' top runner was Caroline Schemel, who finished in 20:03 for 24th overall. Greencastle's Shelby Stouffer (20:50) also finished in the top 50.

In the "Champions" race, James Buchanan placed 24th overall. The Rockets' top runner was Erin Hoffman, who placed 49th after finishing

in 21:09.

The Trojan boys didn't finish as high as the ladies. Chambersburg placed 20th overall with their top finisher being Grant Frey, clocking in at 16:42. It was by far Frey's best race of his career.

Danny Klink, who is usually the Trojans' No. 1, had an off day and fell to the No. 4 spot for the Trojans.

"The only down spot was Danny had a rough day; he just wasn't feeling real well," Chambersburg boys coach John Ambrosio said. "The overall results didn't look real spectacular, but we accomplished what we wanted to do, and we got some good experience."

Tanner Amsley (17:40) and Chris Wurtz (17:44) both finished in the top 100 for Chambersburg, placing 92nd and 99th, respectively.

James Buchanan competed in the race with the Chambersburg, as well, and placed 24th in the team standings.

Rocket Liam Corcoran placed eighth overall with a final time of 16:06 - just 35 seconds behind top finisher Vinny Todaro, of Big Spring.

In the "Champions" race, the Greencastle-Antrim placed 24th overall. The Blue Devils' top runner was Daulton Monn, who finished 19th in 17:07.
