It's been a season full of personal milestones for Delone Catholic High senior basketball player Sierra Moore.

The Duke University-bound wing can add a 2012 McDonald's All-American Game selection to the list. Moore was selected Thursday to represent the East in the prestigious national high school all-star game, which will take place on Wednesday, March 28, at the United Center in Chicago.

Moore, the Hanover area's all-time leading scorer, originally learned of her selection during a practice a few weeks ago, but her selection was annoucned on an ESPNU network telecast on Thursday.

"That was my dream since last year," Moore said. "I was getting kind of doubtful about it, but I'm really happy that I made it. I can't wait to play."

After learning she'd been selected, Moore was immediately mobbed by her jubilant teammates. A basketball with the official McDonald's logo emblazoned on it was handed to her. Moore recalls her heart racing as she held back tears.

"Everybody was cheering for me and I was trying not to cry," Moore explained. "My whole entire team knew, but they couldn't tell anybody. It was awesome."

Moore said she's excited to give Delone Catholic some national visibility in a game that will be televised on ESPNU. She'll play alongside AAU teammates Brittney Sykes and Brianna Stewart, the nation's top-ranked recruit according to ESPN.com. Sykes, who committed to Penn State before re-opening her recruitment, is headed to Syracuse.

Stewart will prolong her career at Connecticut. The trio plays for the Philadelphia Belles on the AAU circuit.

"This is probably the only time that I'll ever have a player of that stature play in a game like that," Delone Catholic head coach Gerry Eckenrode said. "From a coaching standpoint, it's a once-in-a-lifetime honor. It's very rewarding. I'm very proud of what she's accomplished during her career."

Eckenrode is cognizant a game of this magnitude features a "who's who" of the nation's top-tier players, all recruited by NCAA Division I institutions. He wasn't surprised to see Moore's name crack the list.

He said. "For high school girls' basketball, that's the pinnacle achievement. I don't think you can get any honor better than playing in that game. It makes you one of 24 kids across the country that got chosen."

Moore signed her national letter of intent with the Blue Devils prior to the 2011-12 season.

The 2012 McDonald's All-American girls' roster was filled out on Thursday.

In addition to Stewart and Sykes, Moore will play alongside Bashaara Graves (recruited by Tennesee), Bria Holmes (West Virginia), Malina Howard (Maryland), Niya Johnson (Baylor), Michaela Mabrey (Notre Dame), Alexis Prince (Baylor), and Janee Thompson (Kentucky).

Moore has totaled 2,407 points in her illustrious four-year career. She's a three-time All-Area Player of the Year. Moore shattered the YAIAA girls' all-time scoring record, surpassing the 2,304 carer points by Northeastern's Autumn Lau during a 65-27 pasting of Fairfield on Jan. 31. She has a career-best game of 39 points, tallied last Saturday in a Squirette victory over Lancaster Catholic.

Moore has led Delone Catholic to a 19-3 record and a berth in Saturday's YAIAA Tournament semifinals against West York. That game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Dover High School.
