WARFORDSBURG - Southern Fulton secured its third win over Fannett-Metal on Saturday, this time ending the Tigers' season with a 68-57 District 5 Class A first round girls basketball win.

The final score turned out to be the closest F-M has played with the Indians (22-2).

The Tigers fell behind 28-7 after the first quarter though.

"I'm happy the way we started the game," SF coach Terry Bard said. "We jumped on the early - that set the tone."

Fannett-Metal coach Jen Lauthers said, "I tried some timeouts to calm the nerves. I told them all week to be more physical - let them know we're there. We can roll over or go out and fight. But when you dig that big of a hole in the first quarter, it's hard to come back."

Taelor Morton scored a game-high 21 points for Southern Fulton, while Macey Hollenshead had 19 points and led the Indians with nine assists and seven rebounds.

SF outshot the Tigers 52.7 to 40.8 percent.

F-M (12-11) seniors Megan Dougherty and Blaire Lauthers finished their careers with 23 and 22-point efforts respectively. Naomi Fields scored four points in her final game as a Tiger.

The game was also the final one for Jen Lauthers, who made public last week that she will give up her position as the Tigers coach after 15 seasons.

"I knew at the beginning of the year it was time," Lauthers said. "I told (the team) I was proud of them.
