SHANKSVILLE - In a low-scoring game, No. 2 seed Shanksville prevailed over Forbes Road, 47-24, in the first round of the District 5 Class A boys basketball playoffs on Thursday night.

Forbes Road led the Vikings 8-5 after one quarter and was down by only 4 points at halftime.

FR coach Jeff Gelvin said, "Both teams really slowed the game down. They played very good defense. We played good defense, too."

The Cardinals then lost their point guard, Chase Shaw, for the rest of the game.

Gelvin said, "He was hurt late in the second quarter (hand injury). We were right in the game, down 15-11 at halftime. They were able to take advantage of that with their defense and took us right out of our offense."

Forbes Road (6-17) got seven points from Tristan Gelvin, six from Macklin Hawkins and five from Shaw. Hawkins led with eight rebounds.

Gelvin said, "The kids showed up tonight and played really hard. I wish we would have had Chase in the second half, to see what would've happened."

Carter Slade scored 12 points and Joe Hudak added 11 to lead the Vikings (20-3).
