HUSTONTOWN - McConnellsburg took control of Friday night's game by outscoring Forbes Road by 15 points in the first quarter, and the Spartans went on to win the boys basketball game, 65-49.
The Spartans led 26-11 after one quarter in the Sideling Hill/Inter-County Conference game, and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
McConnellsburg (7-15, 3-11 SHL, 5-9 ICC) was led by Tony White with 21 points and seven rebounds. Teammates Jesse Swope and Tyler Green added 13 points apiece.
The Spartans benefited greatly from shooting 51 percent from the floor and holding Forbes Road to 32 percent.
McConnellsburg coach Dennis Swope said, "The boys came out on fire and played really well. I was pleased with the performance they gave me."
The Cardinals (6-16, 2-12 SHL, 4-9 ICC) got 13 points from Kyle Schoen and 12 from Tristan Gelvin. In the rebounding department, Gunner Strait led with 11 caroms.
FR coach Jeff Gelvin said, "They came ready to play and jumped on us early. We dug ourselves a big hole and we couldn't get out of it."

"We've got to play better defense; we're giving up too many points. We had balanced scoring, but we have to stop the other team." For the Tigers (11-11), Walker Bannister, Jordan Hurrell and Trevor Reisinger each tallied 16 points and Bryce Chilcote added 11 Reisinger hauled down 18 rebounds and blocked 4 shots.
