GREENCASTLE - Greencastle-Antrim started fast and never looked back in a dominating win over Carlisle in its last girls basketball game of the season Wednesday night.

Chloe Hoover led the Blue Devils with 21 points and 19 rebounds in the non-league game.

"I'm running out of things to say," G-A coach Mike Rhine said. "She's the best team captain any coach could ask for."

Jane Herman added 16 points, 10 coming in the fourth quarter, and Katie Gelsinger controlled the paint with 17 points.

Heading into the game, the Blue Devil players knew the Thundering Herd had only one win on the season, but they had no plans of lowering their intensity.

"We just lost our last game," Gelsinger said, "and we wanted to make sure we won our last game of the season."

The Blue Devils (11-11) brought the heat early, scoring the first nine points of the game, capped by a 3-pointer from Hoover. However, Carlisle weathered the storm and went into halftime trailing by only nine.

Greencastle opened the floodgates after the break and pushed the lead to 19 by the end of the third quarter.

Hannah Crist used good ball control and excellent vision to frequently find open shooters on the perimeter. Rhine praised her consistency and growth throughout the season, adding, "She is only a freshman."

With Crist finding open shooters outside, the Blue Devils made five of its seven 3-pointers in the second half.

Herman led the barrage, scoring 13 points in the second half, including seven straight during a stretch midway through the fourth quarter. She made only 1 of 8 shots in the first half and 5-for-7 in the latter half.

Rhine said, "She was having fun in the second half."

Greencastle scored 24 points in the final period to cap a 34-point win.

The Blue Devils have no seniors and expect to keep most of its team intact heading into next year. Rhine knows hard work is ahead, but he believes his team has plenty of potential.

"We have a chance to be a pretty good team for the next couple of years," he said.

Megan Bisker led the Thundering Herd (1-21) with eight points and 10 rebounds.
