MERCERSBURG - James Buchanan played 16 players and 13 of them scored as the Rockets closed out their boys basketball season with a 53-38 non-league victory over McConnellsburg on Saturday night.

"It was nice to get some guys in as a reward for all of their hard work this season," JB coach Larry Strawoet said. "They played as a team all year."

The Rockets, who finished 6-16, got 13 points from Garrett Malanka, 10 points and seven rebounds from Ryan Hege and nine points and seven boards from Grant Strawoet.

James Buchanan led 15-11 after one period, then zoomed to a 35-17 advantage by halftime.

McConnellsburg coach Dennis Swope said, "We couldn't stop their penetration and they outsized us. And we turned the ball over too much (22 times)."

For the Spartans (5-11), Tyler Green scored 11 points and Nick Daniels grabbed six rebounds.

Shanksville prevailed over Southern Fulton in a low-scoring game The Indians scored only 3 points in the third period SF coach Kent Hendershot said, "We just couldn't score in the third quarter. In a game like that, we needed to make some baskets. Shanksville is a good team. They're 16-2 for a reason." Nick Smartt led the Indians (9-7) with 9 points Connor Litton had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals Brady Golden had 6 points and blocked 3 shots.

Mercersburg Academy played a second straight overtime game, and this one had a positive outcome for the Blue Storm Mercersburg's Dre Wills had a game-high 29 points Patrick Ryan added 10 points for the Storm (7-10, 1-4 MAPL) Mercersburg coach Tim Crouch said, "We had not pulled out a close win this season. So it's nice to accomplishment that, especially after losing to Princeton Day the other night. The kids responded well." Bryce Allen led Hill with 18 points.
