SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg and James Buchanan were even, 16-16, after one quarter in their Mid Penn Colonial Division boys basketball game on Friday night.

Then the Greyhounds took command, outscoring JB by 14 points in the second quarter and 14 more points in the second half to take a 73-45 victory.

When the teams met earlier this season, Ship squeaked out a 44-40 victory.

The Hounds (8-7, 5-4 MPC) got a balanced scoring attack - Britton Hastings and Cordell Shannon had 10 points each, followed by Mac Miller with nine and Nathan Thrush with eight.

Shippensburg coach Ray Staver said, "It was a close game for a while. In the second quarter, Nathan Thrush came off the bench and hit two threes. We got a couple of charges and a couple of steals. That seemed to turn the tide."

Three players led the Rockets (3-12, 1-7 MPC) with eight points apiece: Grant Strawoet, Austin Metzler and Ryan Hege.

For Shippenburg, Tony Johnson returned to action after being ill.

For JB, Liam Corcoran and Sloane Bendel missed the game due to illness.
