HUSTONTOWN - McConnellsburg and Forbes Road battled it out in a close girls basketball game that the Spartans won at the foul line in the fourth quarter on Thursday night in a Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference encounter.

Shayla Carmack was sparkling in defeat, leading all scorers with 21 points for the Cardinals (3-8, 0-6, 1-6). Carmack and Braylin Hohman had six rebounds each.

Nikki Fleming was the top scorer with 11 points for McConnellsburg (5-6, 2-5, 2-5) and teammate Brittney Parson had nine rebounds.

Spartans coach Dave Garland said, "The game was closer than the score would indicate. We knocked down some foul shots at the end. We took 15 free throws and made only seven of them, but that was enough to keep the lead. We didn't do a good job of finding Carmack. She made a couple of big threes in the fourth quarter."

Carmack made four 3-pointers in the game; meanwhile, the Spartans were 0-for-6 from behind the arc.

Forbes Road coach Stacy Horne said, "It was a pretty good backyard rivalry game overall. Our shooting hurt us (21% from the field). We were behind in the fourth quarter and we had to foul them. They didn't make a high percentage, but they made enough of them to win."
