From staff reports

COLONIAL PARK - Central Dauphin East made a huge run in the first quarter to stake itself to a big lead it never relinquished over Chambersburg on Friday night.

The result was a 55-38 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division defeat for the Trojans, their eighth straight loss in girls basketball.

"The first few minutes it was close, but we started to get in a little foul trouble with our guards and they went on a run," Chambersburg coach Jenny Schmutzler said. "After that, we played right with them most of the game.

"We played man early and didn't do so well. So we went to a 2-3 zone and that contained them a little better."

The first-place Panthers (12-2, 7-1 MPC) led 19-4 after one quarter and made it 40-15 by halftime.

Marshay Ryan played a standout game for the Trojans (3-9, 1-7 MPC). She scored 12 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and added four assists. Darra Walker added nine points.

Schmutzler said, "Marshay had a good all-around game. She hit the boards and kept the ball alive and with those assists she made her teammates better."

For CD East, Calee Gelbaugh fired in 25 points.
