From staff reports

McCONNELLSBURG - In the second and third quarters Thursday night, Southern Fulton outscored McConnellsburg 30-9 to continue its perfect season with a 56-37 Sideling Hill League/Inter-County Conference girls basketball victory.

Macey Hollenshead continued her fine year for the Indians (11-0, 7-0 SHL, 5-0 ICC) with a team-high 16 points, seven assists and eight steals. Kayla Wertz chipped in 14 points, helped by four 3-pointers, and Taelor Morton scored 13.

Southern Fulton coach Terry Bard said, "We were tired from last night, getting back (from Chestnut Ridge) late. We knew McConnellsburg was going to be ready to play, so I thought we handled things well and didn't panic early.

"I was really pleased when we switched to full-court, man-to-man defense in the second and third quarter, holding them to nine points. (Kayla) Chilcote did an outstanding job playing (Jessi) Keefer."

McConnellsburg (4-5, 0-4 SHL, 1-4 ICC) leaned on Jessi Keefer offensively and she led all scorers with 18 points.

Spartans coach Dave Garland said, "We started out fairly well. They pressed us, we did a really nice job breaking it, which led to a couple of easy baskets. But you can't guard Macey (Hollenshead), (Ashley Roman) and someone from the outside. My girls played hard, but sometimes the other team just has too much."
