Sideline Hill League game
McConnellsburg won its first Sideling Hill League game, narrowly defeating Chestnut Ridge ... Despite Chestnut Ridge (5-5, 0-4 SHL) hitting a perfect 9-for-9 shooting from the field in the first quarter and leading 20-11 after the first 8 minutes, the Spartans (3-4, 1-3 SHL) played strong defense to rally back for the victory ... McConnellsburg coach Dave Garland said, "The press was the only thing that kept us in the first half. We were getting some turnovers, but literally in the first quarter, every time they got the ball across half court, they got a basket." ... Libby Strayer led the scoring effort with 15 points for the Spartans ... Nikki Fleming had a strong game, leading the team in rebounds (9) and assists (6) ... The Spartans struggled with free throw shooting, only managing 8 of 19 ... Garland said, "We need to do better than that. If our press hadn't been working so well, we probably wouldn't have been able to get away with that. But we did what we needed to do tonight to get the win."
