NEW KINGSTOWN - Swimming juggernaut Cumberland Valley overpowered Chambersburg on Thursday, by nearly identical scores in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet.

The Trojan girls lost, 123-63, and the boys lost, 120-63.

For the girls (2-2, 2-2 MPC), Lauren Ellis finished first in the 100 freestyle (56.97) and 100 backstroke (1:04.34), while teammate Abby Stauffer touched first in the 100 butterfly (1:67 flat).

The Chambersburg 200 medley team of (Kylee Metz, Stauffer, Ellis and Karlee Metz) took first place in 1:56.44.

Trojan girls coach Donnie Miller said, "Cumberland Valley is traditionally a good team, and this year is no different. Lauren Ellis had a good meet for us with a couple of firsts. And I thought Karlee Metz had some nice swims."

By the times, the boys swam as well as they have all season.

The Trojans (1-3, 1-3 MPC) posted 10 individual bests - an unusual occurrence this time of the year - but didn't sustain the focus and energy necessary to topple CV.

"We're not hitting our turns like we should," said Trojans coach Mark Shoap of the loss. "I don't think some of the guys were as mentally prepared for the meet as they should have been. There were some really close races we should have won, and gave it to them, which is not like us."

Chambersburg's 200 freestyle relay team of Chandler Johnson, Mike Gyurisin, Andrew Leeper and Bryton Zook came up short of CV by .27 seconds.

Gyurisin also finished just short in the 200 and 500 freestyle, relinquishing a lead in the 500 after the final turn.

"We were coming up short by 100th's of a second," Shoap said, "and I don't like being on the downside of those kinds of races."

In diving, Tim Shearer of Chambersburg finished first with a score of 121.55.

Diving coach Ryan Crider said, "We actually did very well for only our second event for diving. Most of the performers were performing new dives. Four of the five are first year high school divers. It shows a good future for us."
