COLONIAL PARK - Sometimes rebounding can be a matter of desire. Other times, it's strictly about size.

Chambersburg managed to pull in a skimpy total of 11 rebounds Friday night and that was the key factor in a 78-38 loss to Central Dauphin in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division girls basketball game.

"Their size, overall, was too much for us," Trojan coach Jenny Schmutzler said. "They have about five girls 6 feet or more, and we're like 5-8, 5-9. We couldn't match up with them man-to-man, so we had to play a zone, and they just killed us on the offensive boards.

"We tried to pack it in, but we weren't aggressive enough in the paint, and then, if they missed, they put it right back up."

The Rams (5-2, 4-1 MPC) zoomed to a 24-6 lead after one period and stretched it to 40-18 by halftime.

For the Trojans (3-4, 1-4 MPC), Darra Walker scored 14 points and Marshay Ryan contributed 12 points and five rebounds.

CD put four players in double figures - Shatara Parsons (16), Amanda Stouffer (16), Jaynesha Davis (12) and Precious Martin (11).

Schmutzler said, "We scored almost 40 points against them, which is OK. But we couldn't keep them from scoring and we couldn't match their points."

Chambersburg has been without three of its biggest players because of injury. Shannon Edwards returned this week, Elaine Etter hopes to return early in January and Jenn Grove has been lost for the season.

"We have to play freshmen now, which is good experience for them, but it doesn't help us now," Schmutzler said.

The Trojans play Thursday at 1 p.
