Evason Ogbonna did a bit of everything to help the Chambersburg boys basketball team avoid another loss.

Ogbonna finished with a game-high 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Trojans to a 57-33 Mid Penn Commonwealth Division victory over the Central Dauphin Rams on Friday night at CASHS Field House.

Chambersburg outscored CD 34-13 in the second half.

"We're slowly but surely putting it together," Ogbonna said. "It's all about defense here, but the offense is really beginning to click, too. This was a big win for us, and it was certainly nice to get so many people involved in the scoring."

Chambersburg, which bounced back big after consecutive close losses at Cumberland Valley and State College, also received 13 points from Kyle Myers and 10 from Kellen Williams. Despite a 1-for-5 performance from the field, Tay Charles made an impact with three steals and three assists.

The swarming Trojans (4-3, 2-3 MPC) held Central Dauphin to 22 percent shooting and dominated the boards, outrebounding the Rams 31-22.

Chambersburg coach Beau Gantz said, "Without question, this was our most complete effort of the year. The kids just laid it all on the line and went out there did what they needed to do."

Brian Laird had nine points for Central Dauphin, which hit just 11 of its 50 shots, including 26 percent (5-of-19) from beyond the arc. Brandon LaVia added six points and three rebounds for the Rams (3-4, 2-3 MPC) in their second straight loss.

"We just didn't play very well," Central Dauphin coach Jay Crosier said.

"Four games in one week - this was our third, we have another one tomorrow - is just too much. We were obviously tired and without question that affected our shooting."

A 13-0 run early in the second half gave the Trojans a 36-22 lead and put the game out of reach.

A 3-pointer by Williams put Chambersburg on top 42-25 with less than two seconds remaining in the third period, and Ogbonna's slam with 4:42 left to play stretched the advantage to 48-26.

Gantz said, "The close losses have been a little bit frustrating because we know that the talent is here. Tonight, the kids played a full 32 minutes and never gave Central Dauphin a chance to get back in it. From a coaching standpoint, you can't ask for much more than that."

The Trojans jumped out to a 15-10 lead with 3-pointers comprising three of their first six baskets. The Rams took a 16-15 lead on consecutive long-range shots by Laird and Ryan Beaver, but Chambersburg answered with an 8-0 run en route to a 23-20 halftime lead.

Mitch Stahl had two of those baskets in the span of 40 seconds to get the Trojans going again.

Defensively, Stahl was part of a bigger starting lineup that overwhelmed Central Dauphin. The Rams committed 17 turnovers, leading to 11 points for Chambersburg, which turned the ball over just 14 times.

The Trojans converted just 9-of-18 free throws, but shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47) from the field, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc.

"This game was a great way to go into the break," Gantz said. "Now we have a little time to get healthy and work on correcting some of those fundamental things that cost us a couple of games we feel like we should have won. Hopefully, we build on this - taking the momentum into the new year."
