On Friday night, the three-year starter didn't disappoint - she put in a career-high 27 points and snagged 15 boards to lead the Blue Devils to a 59-44 victory over Shippensburg in Mid Penn Colonial Division action.
"I challenged Chloe at the beginning of the season to be the leader of the team," Rhine said. "I told her that as the most experienced player on the team that the other girls look to her and they follow her lead.
"She's done a great job of leading a very young group."
G-A (3-3, 2-2 MPC) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.
Early on, it was a balanced effort by the Devils that allowed them to race out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter. All five starters found their way into the scorebook in the opening frame, and they forced seven Lady Hound turnovers as well.
Hoover boosted the host's lead to 25-10 with a hoop with 4:58 to play in the first half, and they appeared on their way to an easy win.
However, Ship answered by scoring eight of the next nine and closed to within 26-18 on Kylee Miller's old-fashioned three-point play with 35 seconds to go until halftime.
G-A took a 28-18 lead to the locker room after Hoover's bucket with nine seconds left.
The third quarter closely resembled the first quarter as Greencastle motored to a 46-21 lead when Hannah
"We focused on breaking their press better in the third quarter and mixed our presses on defense as well," Rhine said when asked how his team took control of the game. "I think we threw every press we have at them in the third quarter, and I think it confused them at times."
Ship (2-5, 2-3 MPC) managed to close the gap to 53-40 when Kayleen Sydner split a pair of free throws with 2:13 to play, but Jane Herman's trifecta from the top of the key blunted any chance of a comeback, making it 56-40 with 1:58 left.
"We struggle to maintain our intensity," Shippensburg coach Amy Lyman said. "We have too many highs and too many lows during the course of games.
"We were coming off of two wins, and we kind of let down. Credit to Greencastle, though. Their shots were falling and ours weren't."
Herman joined Hoover in double figures - she knocked down a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. The Lady Hounds were paced by Alicia Johnson's eight points and seven rebounds.
