From staff reports

It was a day of mixed results on Thursday as Chambersburg swam Central Dauphin in a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division meet.

The Trojan girls splashed their way to a 100-70 victory, while the boys suffered a tough loss, 86-84.

For the girls (2-1, 2-1 MPC), three swimmers won two individual events: Abby Stauffer (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Karlee Metz (200 freestyle, 400 freestyle) and Lauren Ellis (200 individual medley, 100 butterfly). Kylee Metz notched a first in the 100 backstroke.

Chambersburg also won all three relay races, with those swimmers also contributing.

Trojan girls coach Donnie Miller said, "The girls swam a fantastic meet today. It was a lot closer that the score showed. The girls made up their minds to swim to the best of their abilities. We ended up with thirds instead of fourths and fourths instead of fifths and that adds up."

Miller said that the win was "a team victory, with all of the girls contributing.

"Abby Stauffer had a great meet. Whatever we ask her to do, she does it. McKenzie Johnson had a great meet, as well. In the 200 and 400 free, Karlee Metz turned in some great times for this point in the season. Hannah Parson also had some good swims."

The Trojan boys (1-2, 1-2 MPC) racked up first places in five events - by Chandler Johnson (200 free, 100 fly), Bryton Zook (200 IM, 100 breast) and Michael Gyurisin (50 free) - and won two of the three relays. Central Dauphin had just enough seconds and thirds to pull out a victory.

Trojan boys coach Mark Shoap said, "They got us with their depth. We knew going into the meet that it was going to be important to win at least two of the relays, because we knew it was going to be a struggle in the individual events. It was a good meet for the spectators, because it was so close. We were ahead most of the meet. There were 10 races that were divided by less than a second, and some down to the hundreds. We finished on top in most of those races, but it only takes one to get you.

"I was proud of the guys. We had best times all over the place. They gave it all in the water, with nothing left in the tank."

The Rams finished 1-2 in the final event, the 400 free relay to pull out the victory.

Although the meet was considered to be an away meet for the Trojans, it was held in Chambersburg because CD does not have a home swimming pool.
