CARLISLE - Greencastle-Antrim claimed two champions and Shippensburg racked up seven placewinners to take fourth in the team standings at the 51st annual Carlisle Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
For the Blue Devils, Wyatt Binkley scored a pin in 2:50 in the 106-pound final over Bayley Oberlander of Bermudian Springs, and Cody Carbaugh took the title at 113 when he defeated Marshall Myers of West Perry, 5-3.
G-A coach Fred Yelton said, "Wyatt wrestled well in his first varsity tournament. It's hard to do any better than that. He gave up the first takedown and was losing 2-1 after one period, but the other kid chose down and Wyatt turned him twice in bars and pinned him the second time."
Carbaugh led 2-0 after the first period and 2-1 after two. He and Myers traded reversals before Carbaugh scored the final point on an escape.
"Cody wrestled a real solid match and controlled it from beginning to end," Yelton said. "Getting the opening takedown was a great way to start. He had a real strong tournament."
The only other placewinner for for the Devils was Wade Rider, fifth at 120.
For Shippensburg, Dylan Herb (195) and Cary Hess (285) reached the championship round, but each dropped a close bout to finish as runners-up.
