SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg's boys basketball team took a big first-quarter lead, then things went awry and the Greyhounds eventually lost to Columbia, 63-57, in overtime in the Hanover Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.

The Hounds will play Littlestown, which lost to host team Hanover, on Saturday at 6.

Ship coach Ray Staver said, "We were up 17-4 in the first quarter. After that, instead of attacking the basket, we settled for jump shots. That gave Columbia some momentum. We were up by only three at the half."

A key factor in the loss was foul shooting. Columbia hit 15 of 20 shots from the line, while the Hounds were only 3-for-10.

Staver said, "There are things that you can say were turning points, but basically the free throws were what it came down to."

Ty Kater, who finished with eight points and four assists, was the only Hound to score in overtime. Columbia grabbed the lead early in OT and Ship was unable to answer.

Reid Singhas led Shippensburg with 18 points and nine rebounds. Tony Johnson added 11 points.
