McConnellsburg trailed for most of the game, but hit free throws and forced turnovers down the stretch to defeat Mount Union in the Spartans' season opener Nikki Fleming, who led McConnellsburg with 18 points and 10 rebounds, scored 16 second-half points and hit some clutch free throws Spartans coach Dave Garland said, "We came out in the first quarter and ran everything well, but we could hit absolutely nothing. We were 5-for-23 in the first half. In the second half Nikki was hitting her shots and we kept going to her." Sam Roberts led the Spartans with 3 steals (tied with Libby Strayer) and 4 assists Garland said, "We took the lead at the 2:40 mark (of the fourth quarter). Kylie Zittle hit a shot just inside the (3-point) line. Libby caused a key turnover and Nikki was 4-for-4 from the line. The kids really sucked it up and made plays and got rebounds."
