MERCERSBURG - After falling in its first game of the season, the Mercersburg boys basketball team came out strong on Tuesday night in its first Independent Parochial School League game.

Scoring 22 points and holding St. James to just 16, the Blue Storm (1-1, 1-0 IPSL) were able to hold on to that lead for the remainder of the game. Mercersburg scored 15 points in each of the final three quarters, and the Saints were never able to outscored them.

Four Mercersburg boys were in the double digits with Dre Willis and Patrick Ryan leading with 17 points each. Mike Collins and Reggie Fiumano followed closely behind with 13 and 10, respectively.

Ryan knocked down five 3-pointers to be the Blue Storm's best beyond the arc.

The only struggle Mercersburg had was from the free throw line, where the team hit just 5 of 12. The Blue Storm also found themselves in foul trouble. Mercersburg totaled 21 violations, compared to St. James' 11.

The Saints were led by Obi and Nnamdi Enechionyia, who totaled 67 percent of St. James' scoring. Obi had 18, while Nnamdi knocked down 16.

A depleted Cumberland Valley Christian team was no match for New Life The Blazers, missing several players, trailed only 16-8 after one quarter, but it was 41-16 by the half "We had to play some eighth- and ninth-graders and it affected our turnovers (21)," CVC coach Mike Sanders said. "The guys played hard. Connor Chapman had a marvelous game tonight." Chapman scored 13 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 6 shots Josh Sanders had 9 points and 5 assists for the Blazers (2-1, 0-1 MDCC).
