Three players from the York-Adams league who managed to compile some jaw-dropping numbers during the high school football season earned first team all-state honors from the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Kyle Baublitz continues to receive honors for his playing days at Central York, even though he's already enrolled at Penn State. He compiled 123 tackles during a senior season spent primarily at middle linebacker -- even though the AP named him a defensive end on the Class AAAA team. Littlestown receiver Matt Koontz pulled in 51 catches to notch league-highs in receiving yards (1,040) and receiving touchdowns (13) to earn Class AA honors.

Delone Catholic fullback Dusty Reed also earned first team honors in Class AA -- rushing for 1,425 yards with a shocking 8.25 yards per carry average. He also scored 25 touchdowns.

"When you think about it, there are about 500 high schools playing football in the state of Pennsylvania," Central York coach Brad Livingston said. "And for people to know he was down here playing well just shows what type of impact he made."

Koontz has several options for college, but has not decided where he will attend.

"It's a big reward for him but also a reward for the kids who helped him get to this level," Littlestown coach Mike Lippy said. "He had to play for a team that threw the ball. He had to have a quarterback who could throw him the ball ... and that ties in with the work from the guys up front who blocked and allowed

for us to throw the ball.

"Looking back, I can't remember the last time he dropped a pass this season."

West York receiver Dan Gay (47 catches, 620 yards) and linebacker Darion Bundy (45 tackles, four interceptions, four sacks) earned second team honors in Class AAA.

Bundy managed to "set the tempo" for West York's defense, according to coach Ron Miller. Providing an "emotional spark," Bundy also accomplished the unlikely feat of scoring three defensive touchdowns in three consecutive games this season.

"And from a leadership standpoint, Dan Gay was there all the time," Miller said. "His leadership is an example of what I would like our entire team to live up to."

Spring Grove punter Keith Stambaugh (41.1 average punt) earned second team Class AAAA honors.

Kennard-Dale fullback Ethan Hornbarger (1,334 yards, 15 TDs) earned second team Class AAA honors, continuing an upward trend for a program that didn't win a game in 1999.

"I couldn't imagine him not on our team," Rams coach Doug Wilkinson said. "He was everything we needed. But the honor is also a reflection of his team. I think it's a big step for our program."

Delone Catholic defensive end Wes Smith earned second team honors in Class AA, and York Catholic receiver Gary Laucks (56 catches, 668 yards, nine TDs) earned second team honors in Class A.
