The superlative reservoir has run dry. Even West York's gregarious head football coach, Ron Miller, is at a loss for words.
West York's Brandon Real followed up last week's school-record 307-yard rushing performance with a sequel worthy of The Godfather Part II.
Real rushed 18 times for 237 yards and scored six -- yes, six -- touchdowns against a beleaguered Susquehannock defense Friday night, leading the Bulldogs to a 55-14 win and a share of the YAIAA Division II title.
West York can win the division crown outright in next week's season finale against its primary chaser, Littlestown.
Godfather isn't a bad moniker for the kid, since Real is lording over area gridirons with a season for the ages. His six TDs Friday gave him 37 this season.
Miller has already expended all the words he knows describing his senior running back's exploits.
"I'm at a loss. I cannot think of anything more to say," Miller said. "Brandon was upset with the way we played in the first half, as we all were, and you saw what he came out and did about it.
"When he gets that fire, I tell you -- he ran hard tonight."
West York (8-1, 5-0 Division II) led the Warriors 21-7 at the break Friday night.
But hurling a 21-0 shutout with less than a minute to play in the first half, the Bulldogs let their guests back into the contest with a gift-wrapped interception that begat a 29-yard scoring pass from quarterback Patrick Miller to Tyrone Robertson on the final play of
"We had only had the ball three of four times in the first half; we had the play, we didn't execute the play," Ron Miller said. "Would I be as daring in the district playoffs? I don't know. But we're an aggressive play-calling group, and that's not gonna change."
Real had already run 13 times for 129 yards in the opening half, and his 65-yard cutback burst through Susquehannock's defense to make it 14-0 midway through the first quarter had been the game's highlight to that point.
But he was just warming up.
During a 7:10 span of the third quarter, Real had a season for a lot of running backs in that compressed time. He ripped off runs of 77, 47, 56 and 63 yards -- all for touchdowns, the bookends coming on punt returns.
The one-man carnage blew open the game, inflating West York's advantage to 49-7 through three quarters.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog defense -- save that last-play-of-the-half breakdown -- did a number on Patrick Miller and the Warriors by bringing pressure from all angles. The Bulldogs got to the Warriors' signal-caller three times, but it was the pressure that forced a number of hurried throws or scrambles that harassed Patrick Miller into an 11-for-27 night -- including a 1-for-7 second half.
It's that part of West York's game -- its defense -- that Ron Miller wants to make sure gets its due.
"Our defense, because of Brandon (overshadowing it), has been underrated," the coach said. "We've had one hiccup this year, and that's been Dallastown. But if you look at our statistics and the way we've played. ... our defensive line has been outstanding, they are all staying with their responsibilities, and we have speed. You can't say enough."
