Zach Green isn't new to the Dallastown offense. But taking a handoff from the quarterback -- that's a little different.

Looking for a running back to take some pressure off quarterback Chris Hunt, Wildcats coach Kevin Myers didn't have to look further than his receiving corps, pulling Green from his comfortable role as a slot receiver and placing him in the backfield.

The senior didn't waste any time getting adjusted to his new assignment, taking his first handoff and running it 4 yards for a touchdown, one of Dallastown's seven scores in a 49-26 trouncing of Dover.

"He made some eyes pop tonight," Myers said of his senior tailback. "I'm happy for the kid. He's a good kid, a quiet kid, who goes out and works hard."

Sophomore Derrick Mayfield started the game in the backfield, but his small stature took a beating from a tough Dover defense, and Myers opted to try the sturdier Green.

"Mayfield is going to be a heck of a running back," Myers said. "Right now he's a young guy and a little light in the rear, but he's going to get his carries and improve."

Myers relied on a lot of new names to take out Dover on Friday night.

Sophomore Philip Sprenkle took over at fullback and drove 32 yards on 10 carries, while Ben Kline (sophomore) and K.C. Abakporo (junior) made a beeline for the ball everytime Dover took over on offense.

Ben Kline made the most noise on defense, returning two Steven Ferry interceptions for touchdowns.

"We have a lot of kids in a lot of different positions," Myers said. "Last week we were shell-shocked, and it's hard to come back from a loss like that, but they did."

The senior leadership showed both on and off the field Friday night.

Hunt took care of moving Dallastown in the right direction from the start, taking the first snap from new center Garrett Hartman 59 yards for a touchdown.

Hartman's fifth snap of the game turned out pretty much the same way. Hunt ran through the Dover defense, this time from 42 yards out to put Dallastown on top, 14-0.

Dover struggled on defense in the first half for the exception of two big Vaughn Hebron carries that moved the Eagles quickly down the field.

Ferry called his own number on a quarterback sneak in the first quarter to move the Eagles within a touchdown, 14-7, and after Kline's first interception return for a touchdown, Ferry hit Carlos Rivera for an 18-yard score.

After falling short on a 46-yard carry earlier in the game, Hebron finally found the end zone with 36 seconds remaining to move Dover within two of the Wildcats, 21-19, at halftime.

"We kind of laid over there in the first half," Myers said. "We got the lead and then backed down. In the second half, we played our game."

Part of that game was just capitalizing on the mistakes Dover was making.

Dover fumbled the second-half kickoff, turning the ball over to Dallastown and Green, who took Hunt's first handoff 4 yards into the end zone to give the Wildcats some breathing room.

Two more fumbles on consecutive possessions by the Eagles turned into two more Wildcat touchdowns, a 5-yard run by Hunt and a 1-yard run by Sprenkle, giving Dallastown a comfortable 42-19 lead.

Hebron added a second touchdown in the final quarter, but it was too late for the Eagles as they remained winless on the season.
