Central York stole the thunder from South Western Friday on senior night by defeating the Mustangs, 38-16.
South Western had momentum for a brief time heading into the second half Friday at the Mustang Corral.
Central York just missed a field goal, leaving the Panthers up by five. But South Western went three-and-out on the next drive, and a low snap on fourth down contributed to a blocked punt for the Panthers.
The next play, T.J. Shaffer ran six yards for a score, putting Central York up 21-9.
"The snap was a little bit low. It was tough to get a handle on it. There were a lot of things tonight," South Western coach Don Seidenstricker said.
The Panthers took that momentum and came out in the second half and scored on three of their four possesions to put the game away.
"I think it was huge to get that third one on the board before halftime," Central York coach Brad Livingston said. "It was one hell of an effort by a South Western football team. They really pushed us and made us work. Nothing came easy."
D.J. Harrison did a lot of the work for the Panthers, racking up 117 yards on the ground.
Harrison scored on the Panthers' first drive on a 9-yard run.
Central York added a 22-yard pass from Brandon Workinger to Blaine Liggins and a 31-yard field goal from Alex Kelly before letting South Western on the board in the second half.
Workinger had 159 yards through the air for the Panthers.
David Sager returned at quarterback for South Western and went 7-for-18 for 89 yards. He also had a 1-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Mahorney in the fourth quarter.
"Having David Sager back gave us offense we haven't had in the last couple weeks, I thought," Seidenstricker said. "I thought he did a nice job, coming in off of being out a month."
Momentum swung to the Mustangs early in the game, too.
Central York took the opening drive down to the Mustangs' 7, and on third-and-goal, Workinger's pass was intercepted by Jake Myers at the goal line. He returned it to the South Western 32.
The Mustangs' drive stalled at the Panthers' 23, and Zak Kruger kicked a 40-yard field goal for the lead. Central York answered right back with a 3-yard run by Harrison.
Central York countered with a 3-yard run by Harrison.
In the second quarter, Chris Helwig ran 11 yards for the Mustangs, but a botched extra point put South Western up 9-7.
