BIGLERVILLE -- Biglerville running back Parker Showers showed Canner Nation on his first play why he has been such a force this year.

The Canners' rusher took the ball 42 yards to the Hanover 1-yard line and bulldozed into the end zone two plays later as Biglerville (4-1, 2-0 Division III) shut out Hanover, 42-0, Friday night.

"He has been the man since he was in the program in eighth grade. He prepares himself mentally and physically, and the results show," said Biglerville coach Tim Hibbs.

Showers finished the game with 198 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns. The Canners' back showed shifty moves all night, breaking off runs of 42, 36 and 33 yards to ruin Hanover's (1-4, 0-2) Homecoming.

"The line, like they have been doing all season, has been terrific. As far as the whole season, I think our quarterback got sacked once," Showers said.

Quarterback Jarred Picarelli threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Zach Witherow on Biglerville's next possession, and just like that, the Canners were up 14-0 only 5:06 into the first quarter.

In the second quarter, running back Nic Lieberum ran for a 6-yard touchdown. Showers scored from 1 yard out to push the Biglerville lead to 28-0 at the half.

The Canners slowed down their offensive output in the second half, but Showers found the end zone again on a 33-yard run.

Running back Taylor McMaster ran in a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 42-0.

Hanover had a chance to score on its last possession, but Biglerville's defense kept the Nighthawks out of the end zone on the last play of the game to ensure the shutout.

The Nighthawks did not commit any turnovers but struggled to move the ball, punting six times.

Hanover running back Joe Null ran the ball nine times for 31 yards, leading the Nighthawks in rushing.

Biglerville's offensive line paved the way for 258 rushing yards and allowed no sacks. The Canners ran for five rushing touchdowns in the victory.

"The line has been awesome. I couldn't ask for any better. Nothing but good things about the line. It's incredible," said Picarelli.

Despite the lopsided score, Hibbs was displeased with what he called "lapses during the game at various times."

"I still don't know if we know how to finish games off or not. We have got a big stretch here coming up with York Catholic. We have got to get some things corrected for that," Hibbs said.

The win was particularly satisfying for Showers and Picarelli, both seniors, just a year removed from last year's Homecoming loss.

"We definitely wanted to roll through it as far as Homecoming. You just want to remember it your senior year," Showers said.
