From staff reports
The Shippensburg University field hockey program swept the major awards presented by the PSAC Western Division -- sophomore Kristina Taylor was chosen Player of the Year, freshman Ashley Taylor was given Rookie of the Year and Bertie Landes was named the Coach of the Year.
In all, seven Lady Raiders earned all-conference recognition Wednesday, including six first-team selections.
It is the second consecutive year that Shippensburg has had seven all-conference selections since the PSAC moved into the divisional format at the start of the 2008 season.
Kristina Taylor, who was the PSAC West Rookie of the Year last year, continues to lead the nation in goals per game (1.15) and points per game (2.7). She has scored 23 goals and totaled 54 points through 20 games this season, including five game-winning goals. Taylor also leads the team with eight assists, and the team is 12-0 in games in which she has scored a goal.
Ashley Taylor has been a sensation along the back lines this season for Ship. Not only has her defensive presence strengthened SU's mettle along the backline, but she's added three goals and seven assists. Two of her three tallies were game winners and she has converted the team's only successful penalty stroke.
For Landes, it is the fourth time in 11 seasons as the Lady Raider coach that she has been honored by the conference and the first since 2005. This season, Shippensburg reached the No. 1 ranking in the nation
Joining both Taylors on the All-PSAC West first team are senior forward Jamie Doughty, senior midfielder Kim Tully, senior midfielder Mariah Wooters and senior goalkeeper Amanda Houser. Senior defender Lois Kaschenbach was picked as an All-PSAC Second Team selection.
