On a day when 41 was the number to have, Springfield's advantage was simple: It had two of them.
Springfield's duo of Andrew Todaro and Josh Luchon, Strath Haven's Sam Riches, and Cardinal O'Hara's Shane Dougherty all posted meet-low scores of 41 at Rolling Green's par-35 course, with the Cougars narrowly escaping with a pair of wins in the tri match.
Derrick Baun added a 43 as Springfield tallied 222 strokes, barely edging Central League foe Strath Haven (225) and nonleague combatant O'Hara (231). Baun's solid day made sure Springfield (2-0, 1-0) didn't have to wonder what could've been with regard to Todaro, who missed five putts during a round that easily could've been in the high 30s.
Chris Byrd carded a 44, and Sam Branchazio added a 45 for Strath Haven. Andrew Fisher's 42 was just a shot back of Dougherty for O'Hara.
In the Central League:
Conestoga 177, Upper Darby 221: Mike Wolf shot a 38 at McCall Golf Club's par-32 layout to lead the Royals, but his score was only equal to the fifth-best the Pioneers offered in a comfortable win.
Vinny Lucchesi added a 41 for Upper Darby, and Mike Burton chipped in a 45.
Jack Mitchell led Conestoga with a 33, and Andrew Wilner and Michael Cook each carded a 35.
