SPRINGFIELD — After helping The Haverford School claim its first victory of the season Saturday, sophomore quarterback Kevin Carter was recognized for his solid performance, earning Independent Schools MVP honors at Monday night's Delaware County Football Coaches Association meeting.

Carter completed four passes, including one to wide receiver Mike Solomon to set up Carter's game-winning touchdown run, and provided a spark for the Fords, who picked up a 13-12 decision over Blair (N.J.) Academy. Carter also gained 42 yards on 10 carries. He accounted for both Haverford scores.

Haverford High's Jai Thornton received top honors by the Central League coaches. The defensive back recorded two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown, as the Fords defeated Strath Haven 21-2, to get into the win column for the first time in 2013.

Eric Owens of Interboro was the second Bucs running back in as many weeks to rush for four touchdowns. For his effort, Owens was named Del Val League MVP. Interboro won its second consecutive game by virtue of its 40-17 triumph over Penn Charter.
