Ethan Heller didn't finish his day on the highest of notes. His Penncrest teammates, though, picked up the slack so that the Lions could pick up a win.
Heller's double bogey on the ninth hole meant he finished with a 37 at Bala Golf Club, but a strong effort from his teammates led Penncrest to a 202-211 win over Bonner-Prendergast in nonleague golf action Monday.
Cace Strothers came up big for Penncrest, carding a 36. Heller's 37 was the same score posted by Griffin Colvin, and Michael Chang added a 42 to keep Penncrest (3-0) undefeated on the young season.
Quinn Dolan carded a 38 for the Friars at their home course, while Brian Kilroy added a 42 for Bonner-Prendie.
In the Catholic League:Cardinal O'Hara 251, Archbishop Ryan 287: Alec Kerr and Kevin George stayed true to their early-season averages by posting a 37 and 38, respectively, at Frankford-Torresdale's par-34 course to keep the Lions (6-0, 5-0) undefeated.
Matt Penza added a 42 for O'Hara.
In the Central League:Radnor 206, Haverford 221: Austin Dunlap led a balanced effort for the Raiders by carding a 39. He was followed by Jake Liberman with a 41, while Paul Yun, Tom Hamilton and Mike Sydnes finished Merion West's par-35 course in 42 shots apiece.
Haverford's Ian Corcoran rebounded from a snowman on the first hole to finish the final eight holes in 33 to post a 41. Francesco Campese carded a 42, while Frank McVeigh came in with a 43 for the Fords (0-1, 0-1).Strath Haven 182, Upper Darby 230: Sam Brancazio led the way with a 35, Nolan DiRienzi contributed a 35 and Jeff Painter carded a 36, highlighted by a chip-in for birdie on the fourth hole, to lead the Panthers to a lopsided win. Bryan Leonard added a 37 for Haven.
Hunter Taylor was the pace-setter for Upper Darby with a 44 at McCall Field, while Alex Walsh and Ranier Gran added 45s. Springfield 203, Marple Newtown 215, Ridley 246: Marple Newtown All-Delco Sam Soeth was the outstanding individual performer thanks to his 37 at White Manor's par-35 course, but it was the consistency displayed by Springfield's Brian Todaro and Derrick Baum carding matching 39s that led the Cougars to the pair of wins.
Dan Kelly finished in 41 strokes, while Andrew Todaro and Andrew Peranteru chipped in with 42s for Springfield.
Behind Soeth, Seamus Foley and Joey DelFranco posted 44s for Marple (1-1, 1-1).
Greg Myers' 43 led Ridley's effort.
