The day may not have ended on the note that Ethan Heller wanted, but the Penncrest golfer certainly got his season off to a fast start.

Despite a bogey on the final hole, Heller opened the season with a 3-under part 29 at McCall Field Golf Club Wednesday, leading the Lions to a CVentreal League win, 184-226, over Upper Darby.

Griffin Colvin (35) and Cace Strother (38) also broke 40 for the Lions. Penncrest's scoring was rounded out by Mike Chang and Jess Davis with matching 41s. That was the same number posted by Mike Wolf, who led Upper Darby.

Catholic League

Cardinal O'Hara 234, Conwell-Egan 283: Kevin George and Alec Kerr posted 2-over par 37s at Paxon Hollow Country Club, leading the Lions (3-0) to a landslide win.

The Lions' scoring was solidified by a trio of 39s via Steve McAlee, Shane Dougherty and Nick Familetti.

Nonleague

Kennett 208, Strath Haven 218: Brian Leonard carded a 40, and Jeff Painter finished his day with a 41, but the Panthers lost a tight one in their season opener. Unionville 191, Avon Grove 193, Garnet Valley 195: The Jaguars placed four players under 41 at par-35 Concord Country Club, but it wasn't enough to avoid a pair of defeats to Chester County opposition.

Jake Hudock led the way with a 37, John Concannon carded a 38 and Annika Vandayar posted a 39 to lead Garnet Valley.
