HAGERSTOWN, Md. - All good things must come to an end, and so it was with the Shalom Christian girls basketball team on Saturday.

The Flames kept the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference championship game close for three quarters, then New Life pulled away for a 58-40 victory.

Shalom, the top seed in the tournament, had defeated the Rams twice earlier in the season. But it was a different New Life team on Saturday.

Flames coach Brad Eby said, "This is the first time we played them with their injured players back in the lineup. After the first quarter we were behind by five, but we fought back and got up 18-14 at halftime."

New Life led 29-27 after three quarters, then doubled its point total in the fourth quarter to win convincingly.

Doing the damage for the Rams was point guard Liz Catoe, who scored 29 points. She made four 3-pointers and was 11-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Eby said, "She can handle the ball pretty well, she can shoot from the line, and if you let her open, she'll hit the three."

Tori Yoder led Shalom with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kara Lehman scored nine points and Lydia Tissue had eight.

The Flames, who saw a 12-game winning streak snapped, ended the season with a sparkling 16-5 record.

Eby said, "We had a tremendous season. When you look at where the program was a couple of years ago, when we had only six players, we've come a long way. The classes coming up have been strong and the enthusiasm is excellent. I'm sorry we couldn't win today for our seniors, Lydia Tissue and Kamry Baum."
